Pāʻū O Hiʻiaka
Hālau Hula
Pā‘ū O Hi‘iaka was formed in 1976 by Kumu Hula Hōkūlani Holt-Padilla on the island of Maui.
Hōkūlani believes that hula touches all Hawaiian cultural knowledge. It is through hula that one can learn about cultural protocol, plants, chant, stories, Hawaiian values and philosophies, health practices, adornments, clothing, and so much more. Hula is more than dance, it is a way of life. Over the years Pā‘ū O Hi‘iaka has participated successfully in a variety of hula competitions such as the King Kamehameha Day Competition, Merrie Monarch Festival, Queen Ka‘ahumanu Festival Competition, and Maui Mall Hula Competition.
In addition the hālau has also participated in numerous cultural gatherings, ceremonies, workshops, conferences and performances. It remains actively involved in hula, Hawaiian culture and its community.
